Bayer Acquires Aventis CropScience

Germany's Bayer will buy Aventis' crop science unit for 7.25 billion euros ($6.63 billion), including debt.

While Aventis has been looking to sell the unit to focus on its pharmaceutical business, Bayer has been anxious to move up the ladder in concentrated agrochemicals.

The purchase moves Bayer from No. 6 to No. 2, behind Syngenta AG of Switzerland.
