On Saturday, Aug. 13, our farms received a range of 0.35-0.65 in. of rain. Local corn development is anywhere from R3, or milk stage, up to the R5, or dent stage.  Most soybean fields range from R3 (beginning pod growth) up to the R6 (full seed growth).

The local closing bids for Aug. 18 were $7.10 for nearby corn, $6.92 for new-crop corn, $13.49 for nearby soybeans and $13.31 for new-crop soybeans.

Here in Mato Grosso, Brazil the harvest of the secondcrop of corn – safrinha – is 99.2% complete.  Production is 8% below what was projected earlier in the year.  The average productivity is 95 bu./acre.
