Researcher Tracks Agricultural Overuse of Bt

Letter sent to EPA

Early this month 22 scientists sent a letter to the EPA about a major threat to the corn industry in the Midwest U.S. -- the evidence that insects are becoming resistant to one of the varieties of Bt corn in widespread use in the region. The scientists are urging the US EPA to more closely monitor and manage how Bt corn is grown to reduce the threat that the western corn rootworm will become resistant to the best technological tools available for fighting the pest.
