Watch for Goss' Wilt and Leaf Blight on Corn

Tamra Jackson, University of Nebraska

Research project

A new research project was recently started at the University of Minnesota to study traits of the bacterial pathogen that causes Goss' leaf blight and wilt. For this study, we need samples of infected leaves from as many locations in Minnesota as possible.

The process for collecting and sending samples is simple. Please pick 3 leaves with lesions, remove most parts of the leaves that do not have brown lesions, wrap them in wax paper or two layers of heavy brown paper (as from paper bags), place them in a paper or cardboard envelope and send via mail or FedEx (2-day delivery is be fine). Please mail so they don't arrive on a weekend, as they cannot be delivered then. Send samples to Dean Malvick, Department of Plant Pathology, 1991 Upper Buford Circle, 495 Borlaug Hall, University of Minnesota, St. Paul, MN 55108. Questions can be sent to Dean Malvick via email at dmalvick@umn.edu.
