WALNUT CREEK, Calif.— (May 27, 2009) Soybean farmers who used Domark® Fungicide in 2008 showed as much as a 7.5 bushel per acre increase over farmers who did not treat their crop with a fungicide, according to data compiled from across the United States.
The data was a compilation by Valent U.S.A. Corporation of the 2008 yield results of more than 100 farmers across major soybean-producing states. The data compared yield results across a variety of geographies and noted a national increase of 3.7-7.5 bushels per acre among farmers using Domark versus no fungicide treatment at all.
“At soybean prices of about $10.25 a bushel, a farmer with 500 acres of soybeans could see anywhere from a $19,000 to $38,000 increased yield value based on the yield increases we saw demonstrated with Domark last year,” said Rick Kraus, Domark product manager.
Gerald Holmes, Valent product development manager, said the data demonstrates Domark helps farmers target yield-robbing diseases such as frogeye, Asian soybean rust and purple seed stain to ensure maximum harvest value. Additionally, Domark triazole chemistry is shown not to encourage end-of-season green stem issues—a common problem among strobilurin fungicides—all factors which contribute to better overall yield potential.
“When you control diseases common to soybeans, you have a major opportunity to increase yield and improve your value,” Holmes said. “A lot of times you don’t even see the disease out there, but when using Domark ideally at the R3 stage, you’ll definitely see the results at harvest time.”
Valent also reviewed state and regional comparisons of yield increases. When compared to untreated acres in each state, farmers who used Domark saw the following increases:
- Indiana: average of 3.7 bushel/acre increase
- Mississippi/Delta area: average of 4.65 bushel/acre increase
- Ohio: average of 4.7 bushel/acre increase
- Iowa: average of 5.4 bushel/acre increase
- North Carolina: average of 6.5 bushel/acre increase
- Illinois: average of 7.5 bushel/acre increase
“We were encouraged to see that Domark performed well and offered an increased bushels per acre regardless of a specific geography,” Kraus said.
