New Tractor With Onboard Generator

Dec 1, 2007 12:00 PM

Although not available in the U.S. — yet — John Deere has just introduced an electrical power network to two new tractors in its German market: the 7430 E Premium at 200 hp and the 7530 E Premium at 213 hp. Full European introduction is scheduled for 2009.

A generator attached to the engine crankshaft produces up to 20 kilowatts of electric power at an engine speed of 180 rpm. The beauty of this new feature is that it's used to power electric-driven functions such as the fan, air compressor and air conditioning system, freeing up horsepower to be used for real work and at the same time improving fuel efficiency.

This is a first-ever tractor feature with the integrated high power electric distribution system, delivering continuous 12 volts at 300 amps.
