Asian soybean rust has been confirmed in Oklahoma and may be working its way toward Kansas. The potentially yield-robbing disease is just one of several topics on the agenda at the K-State Southeast Agricultural Research Center´s Grain Production Field Day on Sept. 13.

The event, which begins with registration and a sponsored breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., will be held at the center’s Parsons Unit. The unit is immediately south of the intersection of U.S. Highway 400 and Ness Road (also called North 32nd Street).

The topics and K-State speakers will include:

• Wheat Management Research Update – Kenneth Kelley, crops and soils agronomist

• Tillage Effects on Soil Water Under Sorghum – Meghan Buckley Zeimen, agronomist;

• Considerations for Planting Wheat This Fall – Jim Long, crop variety development agronomist

• Asian Soybean Rust Update - Erick DeWolf, Extension plant pathologist

• Nutrient Loss from Turkey Litter in Surface Runoff Water – Dan Sweeney, soil and water management agronomist

• Corn and Sorghum Performance Trials - Kelly Kusel, research technologist
