The Senate passed a farm bill earlier this summer, and the house bill is still in limbo. While at FarmFest this year, Kent Thiesse, vice president, MinnStar Bank and former Extension educator, talked with Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), who sits on the Senate ag committee. From the Senate passing a non-partisan bill, to the livestock indemnity program that was lost last year from the 2008 Farm Bill, to having a strong crop insurance program, Klobuchar is hopeful for a 2012 Farm Bill. She stressed the importance of passing a new bill, and not extending the 2008 version.
