OSU Extension offers intensive crop production workshops

Ohio State University Extension will offer a series of intensive crop producer workshops this winter covering topics related to crop production, weed management, plant pathology and entomology. The workshops, co-sponsored by the Ohio Soybean Council, will be held at the following locations:

* Jan. 29: OSU Extension Shelby County office, Sidney; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Crop Production Workshop will cover such topics as tillage, conservation tillage, soil fertility, nutrient application and crop physiology.

* Jan. 31: Kottman Hall, College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences campus, Columbus; 9 a.m. to noon. The Weed Management Workshop will cover such topics as physiology components of weed control, mode of action/site of action, understanding resistance and weed management requirements.

* Feb. 6: Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center, Wooster; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Plant Pathology and Entomology Workshop will cover such topics as frogeye, seed treatment updates, insect resistance management, integrated pest management and corn rootworm variant.

Registration fee for each workshop is $50 and includes lunch at the
Wooster and Sidney programs, and a parking pass for the workshop on the Columbus campus.

OSU Extension specialists and OARDC researchers presenting during the workshops include: Plant Pathologists Anne Dorrance, Dennis Mills and Pierce Paul; Weed Specialists Mark Loux, Kent Harrison and Jeff Stachler; Agronomists Peter Thomison and Jim Beuerlein; Soil Fertility Specialist Robert Mullen; and Entomologists Ron Hammond and Bruce Eisley.
