It’s time for soybean growers to submit applications for the 2014 Conservation Legacy Awards. The annual award recognizes farmers who distinguish themselves through outstanding environmental and conservation practices while continuing to farm profitably. All U.S. soybean farmers are eligible to enter. Applicants do not need to be an ASA member to apply. (Winners will receive a complimentary one-year membership or a one-year extension if currently a member.)
The award covers three regions: Midwest, Northeast and South. Entries will be evaluated based on:
- Soil Management (20%)
- Water Management (20%)
- Input Management (20%)
- Farmstead Protection (20%)
- Conservation and Environmental Management (20%)
A national selection committee composed of soybean farmers, conservationists and natural resource professionals will evaluate all nominations. Selection will be based on each farmer’s environmental and economic program. Three regional winners will be selected for their stewardship efforts, and a national winner will be chosen from among the regional winners.
