The 2012 harvest is underway. We caught up with Dohling Farms in Nicollet County, Minnesota, the weekend after Labor Day as they were harvesting corn. They had some corn that had hail damage, but was yielding as expected. In the area, some farmers were seeing 30 bu./acre on corn that was planted to sandy ground, and more than 200 bu./acre on better soils. We'd love to see photos of your harvest! Email them to email@example.com, and we'll post them to the gallery.
Brian Vieck, farmer at Vincennes, Ind., sent in photos of his corn harvest with a Gleaner S77. Yields were ranging from 17 bu./acre on sandy ground to 155 bu./acre on their irrigated land. Vieck says the drought started early in southern Indiana where his farm is located. "Definitely a year for the record books," he says.
CSD Editor Kurt Lawton got photos of the corn harvest at the Bill and Babetta Lucke farm near Persia, Iowa. Their farm is on the rolling, terraced hills of western Iowa, about 50 miles northeast of Omaha, Neb.
