The 63-year-old name of this publication, Soybean Digest, changes with this issue. The change isn't earth-shattering so much as it more clearly identifies what the magazine has evolved into over time.
Originally, Soybean Digest was a soybean industry magazine, published by the American Soybean Association. In 1985, however, it started including editorial information about corn and offering corn-related advertising.
The reasoning was simple. If you grew soybeans, you probably rotated them with corn. But throughout that refocus, the magazine's name stayed the same.
Today, you'll see that the familiar magazine you've trusted for soybean and corn production information comes wrapped in a brand new cover: The Corn And Soybean Digest. Frankly, we probably should have added corn to the nameplate long ago.
As always, editorially we'll continue to focus on corn and soybean production as well as on marketing. But now you'll clearly know that because we're touting our “corn” emphasis on the cover.
In addition, we've taken a dramatic, graphic leap on the cover to inject an upscale, businesslike appearance that mirrors that of your farming operation. We've also carried that bolder, businesslike graphic look throughout the inside of the magazine.
Please be sure to check out our new “Profits” section on page 38. There, you'll find a preview of the best and brightest marketing and risk management advice that our columnists provide.
Under the Profits umbrella you'll continue to get the expertise and guidance that our top columnists — Moe Russell, Alan Kluis and Rick Brock — regularly provide. We hope that packaging them together will allow you to more quickly get a pulse on compelling marketing strategies.
We like the new look, and especially the new name. We hope you do, too.
