New Row-Crop Tractor Series Launched
Caterpillar launches its third generation of Challenger tractors, ranging from 185 to 255 PTO horsepower.
Features include an all-new cab and a well-placed tractor management center providing fingertip control for most functions. A refined undercarriage system features a track wheelbase 10" longer than previous models, with improved flotation and less compaction without having to use a wider belt.
Rounding out the changes are the new Cat C-9 engine and a new, steerable three-point hitch option. The engine leads its power class with 538 cubic inches of displacement and meets EPA Tier II emission standards. Its fuel capacity is the largest in its tractor size class.

Field Cultivator Increases Speed, Accuracy
John Deere's 2200 Field Cultivator, with its AccuDepth system, offers in-cab controls to raise, lower, set depth and level its frame.
It also adjusts each section's frame depth independently from the rest of the unit using a cylinder with proportional valve and position sensor. The cultivator has a floating hitch and an adjustable three-bar coil-tine harrow with heavy-duty drawbars for tine angle adjustments without tools. The harrow can pass more residue and keep a smoother profile than previous models.

High-Powered Combine Series
The next-generation New Holland combine series, the CX, increases power and boosts throughput capacity by 15% over the company's TX series. The CX840 and CX860 models feature 295- and 330-hp engines, plus 290- and 330-bu grain tank capacity, respectively. Both have overhead-style unloading augers that empty grain at a 3-bu/second rate, according to New Holland, based in New Holland, PA.
The series' threshing and separating system, featuring a patented two-speed rotary separator, separates nearly all the grain before it is delivered to the straw walkers. The straw walker area has been increased to maximize crop flow to the 10,075-square-inch cleaning system. A full-width, self-leveling cleaning shoe disperses grain over the width of the cleaning sieves, even on slopes up to 17%.

The Raven can be stacked on most Raven consoles and connected to other devices for data collection in ASCII format.

Sub-Soiling For No-Till, Minimum-Till
The Zone Commander from Brillion Farm Equipment, Brillion, WI, loosens compacted soil down to 20" while leaving the surface relatively undisturbed. The tool comes in three- to eight-shank models with auto-reset or rigid shank mounts that accommodate straight or parabolic shanks. The unit can be set at standard 30"-spacing — or to 24".
Double-coil springs provide over 2,500 lbs of point pressure to the 16" trip height on the auto-reset model. Grade-8 shear-bolts give added protection. Manual-adjust gauge wheels regulate shank depth down to 20", and a 39" clearance under the 5 × 7" frame makes for smooth and easy residue flow.
