HELPS TIME N APPLICATION

A new imagery and farm management system from John Deere enables you to optimize the timing and placement of your nitrogen (N) application. Called the OptiGro System, it's available through your local crop advisor or input supplier. Aerial images based on the light reflectance of your crop's V8-V10 growth stage drive the creation of application zones. Your agronomic advisor “ground truths” (verifies) these zones in the field, and then bases N application rates on the zones. Maps are then sent to your applicator for variable-rate applications. According to OptiGro, you'll then be able to begin with 50-65% of your historical N rate in the spring, potentially saving between $5 and $20/acre in N cost and reducing N leaching and runoff.
