Roundup Ready 2 Yield™ Soybeans Product Background

• Roundup Ready 2 Yield™ soybeans are the new, second generation of Monsanto’s Roundup Ready soybean technology that will provide higher yield and profit potential for farmers.

• In four years of Monsanto research trials, Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans consistently achieved 7 to 11 percent higher yields than first generation Roundup Ready® soybeans.

• Roundup Ready 2 Yield offers the same dependable, flexible weed control and crop safety that farmers expect from the Roundup Ready System.

• There will be a limited commercial release of Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans on up to 2 million acres in 2009; a full-scale launch is planned in 2010.

• In 2009, Roundup Ready 2 Yield varieties will be available primarily throughout Iowa, Nebraska, Ohio and Pennsylvania; in most of Illinois and Indiana; in portions of northern Missouri, Kansas and Maryland; and in portions of southern Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and South Dakota.

• Roundup Ready 2 Yield was developed through extensive gene mapping that allows Monsanto to identify specific DNA regions in soybeans that have a positive impact on yield. Using advanced insertion and selection technologies, the Roundup Ready 2 Yield gene is situated in one of these DNA regions that provide higher yield potential.

• When introduced in 2009, Roundup Ready 2 Yield will be offered in high-performing genetics from Asgrow, as well as American Seeds Inc. (ASI) and other leading regional soybean seed brands.

• Roundup Ready 2 Yield will serve as the primary platform for Monsanto's introduction of new, future soybean trait technologies, including higher yield, expanded herbicide tolerance and enhanced oil products.
