Sign-Up Deadlines For New Farm Bill Programs Fast Approaching

The USDA wants to remind farmers to mark their calendar with these important upcoming deadlines for the programs that are part of the 2008 Farm Bill. Producers who want to participate in the Farm Bill’s new permanent disaster programs must have crop insurance or be signed up for the non-insured crop disaster assistance (NAP) program for their 2008 crops. The sign-up deadline for NAP is Sept. 16, 2008. NAP service fees have increased from $100 to $250/crop, $300-750/county and $900-1,875/producer for all counties. Sign-up for the 2008 Direct and Counter-Cyclical Payment Program must be done by Sept. 30. Producers can fill out a 2008 DCP contract at any USDA Service Center, or sign-up online by visiting www.fsa.usda.gov/edcp.
