Soy Beverages Get India's OK

Incorporating low-cost soy protein into the diet - especially in beverages - of people in developing countries may help to address their protein needs.

In a study in India, nine types of soy-based health beverage mixes were created and evaluated by taste.

The beverages were then given to children in selected rural and urban schools. The same children were tested for their nutritional knowledge before and after a nutrition education program with special reference to soy.

The beverage mixes were found to be acceptable to the children, whose nutritional knowledge improved significantly after nutrition education.
