The 2012 corn crop is 97% emerged, while soybeans follow at nearly 80% popped up. The condition of the corn crop is about the same as last week: 72% good-excellent. The soybean crop is sitting at 65% good-excellent, in its first week of crop condition ratings.
While Pennsylvania the Pennsylvania corn crop is still sitting at only 62% emerged, the corn in Indiana, Missouri, Nebraska and Tennessee has emerged completely. Most other states are seeing at least 90% of the corn crop emerge, save for Wisconsin at 87% and Colorado at 89%.
The condition of the corn crop is the same as last week's 72%, however the good condition dropped two points and the excellent condition picked them up. Last year's corn crop was 67% good-excellent at this time.
Almost all of the soybeans have been planted by now. The crop is 94% in the ground. Only Nebraska is finished with beans. Most other states have 10% or less left to get in with the exception of Kansas (86% planted), Kentucky (80% planted), Missouri (88% planted) and Tennessee (81% planted). North Carolina has just under 50% of its beans in the ground, 5 points behind the five-year average.
Of all the beans that have been planted, almost 80% of the crop has emerged. This is well ahead of the 50% five-year average. Minnesota's soybean crop made the most progress in the last week, reaching 76% emerged, compared to 41% last week.
The soybean crop is in good condition, with 55% of the crop rated good. Ten percent is sitting at excellent, while almost 1/3 of the crop is in fair condition. This is the first week of condition ratings for the 2012 soybean crop.
