With nematodes infesting cotton, Bahia grower John Carroll made a switch to peanuts, an alternative crop he experimented with a few years ago. Unable to grow anything else on this specific field, even using nematicides, a switch to 250 acres of peanuts was necessary. These peanuts are about 15 days from being ready. John has no idea if he’ll make any money off of them, but they are the only alternative crop that’s resistant to nematodes that could bring a profit in Bahia.
