Syngenta Celebrates Five-Year Anniversary of Agrisure® Corn Traits

MINNETONKA, MINN. — December 10, 2009 — Agrisure® Corn Traits, the Syngenta Seeds, Inc. system of high-performance in-seed traits, is celebrating five years of helping growers discover maximum yield performance. This milestone recognizes Syngenta’s ongoing commitment to providing growers with a full portfolio of innovative trait technologies.

With the Agrisure system, Syngenta built upon its outstanding seed technology legacy that includes the first commercialized Bt corn trait, which the company developed in 1996. In 2004, Syngenta launched the Agrisure GT trait, followed by the Agrisure RW trait in 2006. These accomplishments, along with the development of a full complement of trait stacks, offer growers the first and only complete alternative trait system.

Today, more than 150 independent seed companies have Agrisure trait license agreements in place. Agrisure Marketing Manager Tracy Mader says he expects that number to continue to grow.

“The marketplace has sent a clear message that it wants choices and options when it comes to traits,” said Mader. “We’re proud to have been able to address that need in such a short time while retaining the principles of sound science.”

In addition to its current portfolio, the Agrisure brand is making inroads in new trait technologies. Upon receipt of the remaining regulatory and key import market approvals, its forthcoming Agrisure Viptera™ trait* will feature the Vip3A protein, a completely new mode of action for insect control in corn. The Agrisure trait pipeline also includes cutting-edge technologies for optimizing water resources and efficiently utilizing nitrogen, as well as continued advances in herbicide tolerance, insect control and reduced refuge options.
