TMDL Regulations May Be Cut Back

A coalition of commodity groups and related organizations support the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) proposal to withdraw the July 2000 Total Maximum Daily Load regulations.

Concerns were raised that those regulations went beyond the authority of the Clean Water Act and established unwarranted burdens on non-point sources of pollution. The Clean Water Act regulations prior to 2000 will remain in place. EPA is considering additional measures to improve water quality.
