Tyler Bruch's May 22 Brazil Soybean Update

Before land is farmable in Bahia, Brazil, it is cerrado (native prairie). To prepare the land for cropping, the bushes, trees and roots are cleared, lime is applied, the land is disked, then lime is reapplied and the ground is disked again. In parts of Brazil, there’s a requirement that when clearing a farm, 20% of the land must stay cerrado; the rest can be cleared and cropped.
