USDA Small Grains, Stocks Reports Show Wheat Numbers Up

Old-crop corn stocks on Sept. 1 totaled 1.71 billion bushels, up 2% from a year ago. Of the total stocks, 485 million bushels are stored on farms, down 20% from a year earlier. Off-farm stocks, at 1.22 billion bushels, are up 15% from a year ago. The June-August indicated disappearance is 2.60 billion bushels, compared with 2.59 billion bushels during the same period last year.

Old-crop soybeans totaled 151 million bushels, up 9% from last year. Soybean stocks stored on farms totaled 35.4 million bushels, up 1% from a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 116 million bushels, are up 12% from last year. Indicated disappearance for June-August totaled 420 million bushels, down 8% from the same period a year earlier. USDA says no revisions were made to the 2009 soybean production.

Oats stored in all positions on Sept. 1 totaled 117 million bushels, 9% a year ago. Of the total stocks on hand, 46.8 million bushels are stored on farms, down 14% lower than a
year ago. Off-farm stocks totaled 70.7 million bushels, 4% below the previous year. Indicated disappearance during June-August totaled 44.7 million bushels, compared with 48.8 million bushels a year ago.

Old-crop grain sorghum totaled 41.2 million bushels, down 25% from a year ago. On-farm stocks, at 4.50 million bushels, are up 2%. Off-farm stocks at 36.7 million bushels, are down 27% from last year. The June-August indicated disappearance from all positions is 46.6 million bushels, down 2%. Barley stocks totaled 225 million bushels, down 6%. On-farm stocks are estimated at 127 million bushels, down 18%. Off-farm stocks of 98.4 million bushels are 15% above September 2009. The June-August indicated disappearance is 72.4 million bushels, 5% below the same period a year earlier.
