WTO MAY HURT LAND VALUES

University of Nebraska Economist Bruce Johnson says significant cuts in ag commodity programs in the next farm bill, imposed to get U.S. policy compliance with whatever comes out of talks by the World Trade Organization (WTO), have the potential to reduce farmland values. Combined with rising energy costs, lower livestock prices and water availability issues, he says a decline of 10-15% over the next couple years is possible.
