SmartStax is a newly announced eight-gene-stacked combination in corn. Scheduled for release in 2010, the technology combines Dow AgroSciences' and Monsanto's insect protection and weed control trait technologies.

They will cross-license germplasm including Dow AgroSciences' Herculex^® I and Herculex RW technologies; Monsanto's YieldGard VT Rootworm/RR2^™ and YieldGard VT Pro^™ technologies; and Roundup Ready^® and LibertyLink^® weed control systems.

Monsanto and Dow Agrosciences have requested reduced refuge requirements from the EPA for SmartStax.
