Large Tractor Sales Stable In 2009

Tractor sales were down 21% in 2009 as a whole, but the large farm-size tractors and combines were not hit as hard, and even improved in some cases, according to the Association of Equipment Manufacturers.

Two-wheel-drive tractors of 100+hp were down 13% compared to 2008, while smaller two-wheel-drive tractors (under 40 hp) were down 20% and medium tractors (40-100 hp) fell 29%.

Sales of four-wheel-drive tractors and combines were both higher at 2% and 15%, respectively.
