WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Growers Edge™ (www.growers-edge.com) has released a free app for iPhone and Android smartphones to access many of the free services of Growers-edge.com.
The Growers Edge apps allow farmers to use their smartphones to locate their best net cash prices, view weather and track their profit management accounts within growers-edge.com. Farmers also have the flexibility of being in constant contact with their favorite local cash grain markets — no matter where they are — and understand how these prices can impact their profitability goals.
“Our new smartphone apps provide farmers with the opportunity to follow the local markets no matter where they are. The information they need to make critical decisions regarding their farm operation is only an arm’s length away,” says Craig Mouchka, president of Growers Edge. “Plus the apps also allow our users to see weather radar and forecasts, and rainfall amounts by field.”
Growers can use the app to access the Growers Edge best cash price bid program that helps farmers to locate the best net cash grain prices within 100 miles of their farms. Based on a grower’s location, the Growers Edge program calculates the best cash price bid after trucking and storage costs are deducted. Typically, the cash bid found by growers-edge.com is better 70 percent of the time for soybeans and 90 percent of the time for corn compared to what is being offered by the closest market. Plus the results come right to the farmer’s smartphone without making any calls.
The Growers Edge app also includes Profit Manager™, an online system that allows farmers to view how profitable their farming operation is at all times. Farmers define their profit-per-acre goal and Profit Manager calculates the per bushel price needed to meet the profit goal. Profit Manager helps determine when it’s most profitable to sell bushels by easily organizing and tracking key data that has an impact on the farming operation’s breakeven and profitability. Growers can project their potential profit before “pulling the trigger” on every grain sale right from their smartphone. Farmers can also access market quotes, commentary and local news using the new smartphone apps.
“The Growers Edge app is great,” says Julie Bickelhaupt, a farmer from Mt. Carroll, Ill. “You can jump right in and get your local elevator prices, market quotes and view charts. It's the best app I’ve used for weather radar. It brings all the information I need right to my fingertips.”
Growers can access the Growers Edge smartphone app from iTunes and the Android Market or by registering at www.grower-edge.com. Anyone without a smartphone can still register at the website and have free online access to all Grower Edge services.
