Farmers and other residents of Mississippi’s South Delta will see flooding from the current high water situation on the Mississippi River and the Yazoo River Basin. But it should not be as dire as if the Yazoo Backwater Levee failed, according to Col. Jeff Eckstein. Eckstein, commander of the Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District, described two scenarios for flooding in the South Delta during the Stoneville, Miss.-based Delta Council’s annual meeting in Cleveland, Miss., May 6. The flooding projections are based on a crest of 57.5 feet in Vicksburg on May 20.
