Jet Fuel From Algae?

That's right, according to Solazyme Inc., a renewable oil production company. The first algae-based jet fuel has been developed and has passed the 11 “most challenging specifications needed to meet the ASTM D1655 standard for aviation turbine fuel,” the biggest hurdle in developing a renewable fuel for jets.

The oil is produced from algae in large tanks quickly, efficiently and without sunlight. The process can also be used on cellulosic materials and industrial byproducts.
