Meals For 4,000 Starving Children

Thanks to everyone who contributed money to help support the Feed My Starving Children program that I mentioned in my February editorial. Your support helped feed children around the world, especially those in Indonesia hit by the recent tsunami. Incidentally, the first week of March the program shipped 1.3 million meals to starving children.

SoySoft For Soldiers In Iraq

Because of the dry, arid conditions in Iraq, Minnesota soldiers have been writing home asking for lotion to help heal their dry, cracked hands.

When the Minnesota Soybean Growers and Soybean Research and Promotion Council heard this, they responded immediately and sent more than 1,700 bottles of SoySoft lotion to Iraq. SoySoft, Inc. also donated to the shipment.

What a great idea. When it comes to our troops, I guess Minnesota farmers are just a soft touch.

Publisher Ron Sorensen Retires

When this magazine shows up in your mailbox, to a large extent it's been due to the guidance and vision of Ron Sorensen, publisher since 1993. Publishers are like general managers — they supervise the advertising, editorial and overall profitability of a publication.

Ron is now retiring from the ranks of The Corn And Soybean Digest. He's shown here holding a plaque recently presented to him by the American Soybean Association (ASA), recognizing his contributions to the soybean industry.

Besides running the day-to-day business of the magazine, Ron has been a whiz at developing creative special projects geared toward soybean industry issues. The ASA Conservation Legacy Award is one example.

Ron will continue to help us on a consulting basis for future projects. We look forward to his continuing vision, input and sage advice.

We also want to welcome our new publisher, Greg Frey, a longtime Primedia employee. We're confident he'll do a bang-up job of keeping the magazine on track.
