If you scout, plant seeds, chart field boundaries, chart soil types, manage applications or manage your books, these days there is an app for just about any farm operation you do. Here’s a roundup of apps we think you could find helpful. Some require specific equipment or subscriptions, most are free and many are available for tablets.
Regardless of the requirements, they will surely help you Think Different about the way you farm.
Beyond apps specifically designed for farm operations, there are so many others that can help your daily tasks. No phone should be without a flashlight app. Simply search “flashlight” in your app store. And don’t forget about iHandy Level, Weather.com, Convert Units, Bump (contact and photo sharing) and Voxer (turn you phone into a walkie-talkie).
Dropbox is a great app for document storage (2GB for free). You can access it from the web, your desktop computer or your phone and can store music, documents, photos. You can also share files and folders with other Dropbox users. Keep electronic receipts, questions for your seed dealer and lists for your insurance agent and access them from anywhere.
Be an agvocate and install social media apps to tell your side of the ag story. Use Facebook and Twitter to share your thoughts. Shoot a video and upload it to YouTube. Start a photo feed with Instagram. The options to share your voice are endless.
