He, his father Ron and uncle grow corn and soybeans on rolling land near Chester, S.D. In the early 1990s, they started reducing seeding rates manually in the dry corners of pivot-irrigated fields, where yield potential is always much lower. The practice cut seed costs by 25% in unwatered sections, and was especially beneficial in dry years, Alverson says.

http://cornandsoybeandigest.com/precision-ag/make-variable-seeding-work#comments Precision Ag Seed corn planting soybean planting Precision Farming Thu, 17 Jan 2013 20:03:00 +0000 74481 at http://cornandsoybeandigest.com Crop Sensors Come of Age | Farmers Prove Technology Can Deliver Comfort, Payback http://cornandsoybeandigest.com/precision-ag/crop-sensors-come-age-farmers-prove-technology-can-deliver-comfort-payback

In-crop optical sensing, also called canopy sensing, is boosting yields and cutting costs for Robert Goettl, his brother Jerome and nephew Justin. His University of Illinois master's thesis at that time focused on crop-production software. He’s built his own spreadsheets ever since then for budgets, crop production and yield analysis. “I don’t know how a producer could track of all of the farm data without spreadsheets’ immense time savings and analysis of 'what if' scenarios,” he says.

http://cornandsoybeandigest.com/precision-ag/crunch-your-scenarios-spreadsheets-are-vital-risk-management#comments Precision Ag Bookkeeping/Accounting Fri, 19 Oct 2012 17:42:00 +0000 71771 at http://cornandsoybeandigest.com Sensored Soils Boost Agronomics | New Sensor Technology is the Next Management Frontier http://cornandsoybeandigest.com/precision-ag/sensored-soils-boost-agronomics-new-sensor-technology-next-management-frontier

Imagine, or just push the fast-forward button: You activate your sensor network to take soil, root and leaf readings and report data.
