Tips From The Conservation Tillage Conference

Corn & Soybean Digest Editor Greg Lamp is at the Conservation Tillage Conference in Fergus Falls, MN, and is tweeting some great tips! The conference runs through noon today, so there’s plenty more information to come. Follow along at: www.twitter.com/csdigest.

Here are a few snippets of information he’s passed along so far:

  • In well-drained soils, pull the trigger and try no-till soybeans, says Iowa State University’s Joel DeJong.
  • Gary Wagner, a Minnesota farmer, says the five most important yield factors are: 1. Drainage; 2. Seed variety; 3. Insect/weeds; 4. Plant pop; 5. Tillage.
  • A little tire slip is a good thing because it transfers power to the ground. 8-12% slip on a 4WD is about right, says Reed Turner of Ag Tech.
